New Spider-Man TV shows coming to Marvel TV Universe

The Marvel TV Universe will include comedy, drama, and animated shows.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the masterminds behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, are gearing up to create a Marvel TV Universe. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the duo will create the slate of new shows for Sony Pictures TV.

The upcoming TV shows will include Spider-Man and Sony's universe of Marvel characters, which also features Venom.

Under the pact, Lord and Miller will create and develop their own comedy and drama projects for broadcast, cable and streaming as well as supervise other writers' projects. Additionally, the pair will also be involved in developing a suite of television series based on Sony's universe of Marvel characters.

Lord and Miller are responsible for bringing Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse to life, which is considered to be one of the best Spider-Man movies ever. If anyone can lead Sony's slate of Marvel characters to glory, it's them.

"Together we aim to make groundbreaking work of the highest quality and integrity, and to place that work in convenient proximity to your eyeballs and earholes, wherever you may be," Lord and Miller said in a joint statement.

With Disney set to launch a streaming service with shows based in the MCU, it'll be a battle for eyeballs (and wallets) over the next few years.

Lord and Miller have plenty of experience creating top-tier content both in animation and live-action, with projects like Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and 21 Jump Street under their belts. If what they bring to the table is half as good as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, then fans have a lot to look forward to.
