The Rafah border crossing point between Gaza and Egypt has opened, allowing the first aid trucks to enter the besieged strip on Saturday.

Footage shows the convoy of 20 trucks entering from Egypt following a week of negotiations involving the US, Egypt, Israel, and the UN.

The crossing closed quickly after the trucks entered Gaza, CNN reported. The border crossing is the only one not controlled by Israel.

More than 200 trucks carrying roughly 3,000 tons of crucial aid had been positioned near the crossing for days before some were allowed through, the Associated Press reported.

The trucks carried critical medicine and food supplies, according to Hamas, per Al Jazeera. The outlet reported that no fuel is on the trucks.

Many in Gaza have been suffering from water and food shortages. Hospital workers have called for crucial medical supplies to treat those injured in the attacks, as well as fuel for generators needed to keep hospitals running.

Aid workers say that the supplies carried by the 20 trucks will be a fraction of what the population of 2.2 million people living in Gaza needs.

The 20 trucks were from the Egyptian Red Crescent, a spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General said, per CNN. UN aid trucks are expected to enter Gaza through the border on Monday, the UN spokesperson told CNN.

Following the Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel on October 7, Israel has been bombarding Gaza with air strikes, killing over 3,785 people and injuring 12,000, according to the enclave's authorities.
