What's going on today:
- So that's why he was wearing a windbreaker. GOP lawmaker Mo Brooks admitted he wore body armor at Jan. 6 Trump rally and hid it by wearing a windbreaker. The Alabama rep. said he was "warned on Monday that there might be risks associated with the next few days."
- This is legit a plotline in "F9." A 60-year-old gem thief was jailed for switching out seven gems for pebbles in a $5.8 million diamond heist. Lulu Lakatos posed as a gemologist visiting the Boodles jewelry store in London's Mayfair and swiped seven gems in a sleight-of-hand heist.
- Slightly dystopian but OK. Dubai is coping with its 125-degree heat by using laser-beam-shooting drones to shock rainwater out of clouds. Dubai is desperately in need of more rain. The UAE gets around four inches of rainfall per year, which makes farming close to impossible.
- Mask up for the mouse. Disney World to again require face masks indoors for all guests and cast members, regardless of vaccination status. Disney World issued a face mask mandate for all guests, as Orange County, Florida, where the resort is located, declares a state of emergency over record-high cases.
- Protect Simone at all costs. Simone Biles said the support she's received after opting out of the all-around has made her realize she's "more than my accomplishments and gymnastics." Biles, the most accomplished gymnast in her sport's history, pulled out of two events at the Tokyo Olympics this week.
- That's all for now. See you tomorrow.
