What's going on today:
- More contagious than we thought. Internal CDC document warns that 'the war has changed' with the delta variant, which is more infectious and severe: Washington Post. Based on unpublished data recently collected, the document said there is evidence that the delta variant can spread among fully vaccinated people as easily as those who are unvaccinated.
- Rubio's mask comments. Sen. Marco Rubio mocked Defense Sec. Austin for masking up in the Philippines, where masks are required and COVID-19 is surging. Rubio, whose home state of Florida is also facing a COVID-19 surge, accused Lloyd Austin of "embarrassing COVID theatre."
- A reversal of fortune. My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell - Tucker Carlson's biggest sponsor - says he's pulling ads from Fox News because it won't air his commercial about an election fraud symposium. MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell said he is pulling his ads from Fox News after it declined to air his commercial supporting voter fraud theories.
- And she did THAT in dangly earrings! South African swimmer Tatjana Schoenmaker screamed in shock when she realized well after her race that she broke the world record. Schoenmaker's fellow swimmers joined her in the pool to celebrate.
- Florida mayors flee from DeSantis policies. Mayors of 2 Florida counties break with DeSantis and impose vaccine and mask mandates. Masks will be required at all indoor county facilities in Miami-Dade County, and all of Orange County's 4,200 non-unionized county employees must be fully vaccinated by the end of September.
