Tour the $20,000 Ford Maverick pickup truck's funky and functional interior
The new Maverick pickup is Ford's cheapest model, but that doesn't mean it feels cheap inside.
Ford creatively used hard plastics and inexpensive materials to make the truck feel funky and fun.
The $20,000 Maverick also packs plenty of little storage spots for odds and ends.
Starting at $19,995 before destination fees, the new Maverick pickup truck is Ford's lowest-priced model. You might think that inevitably means a dark, sad, cheap-feeling interior — but you'd be wrong.
We took a spin in the most basic Maverick XL Hybrid. And although its cab is bare-bones and there isn't any leather in sight, Ford managed to make it remarkably functional, pleasant, and not cheap-feeling.
Ford's use of exposed bolts also keeps things interesting.
The Maverick has no shortage of storage for odds and ends.
Along with a large cubby between the seats, the center console has multiple handy spots for propping up a phone.
There’s a little storage area by the infotainment screen…
… and another above it.
Flip open the rear seats and there's extra room for bulkier items.
The display itself isn't very big or advanced, but it gets the job done. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, which most people will probably use anyway instead of the built-in software.
The back seats aren't particularly spacious, but you can't expect much more from a compact truck. To add more legroom, Ford would have had to steal from the already-petite bed.
